Montezuma Castle
Montezuma Castle Nation Monumument
Its July and beyond hot in Phoenix. So we drove 90 minutes north on I-17 to see an old house. This baby is real old. Like 1000 years.
If anybody ever tells you that they built or live in America's first condo resort, ask them if they've ever been to Monty's. Cuz this place looks just like any condo tower we see built these days. Its got a helluva view of the Verde Valley and I bet tourist came from all over to swim in the Verde River and bask in the sun. It is also obvious they didnt have to deal with all the ADA codes back then. I'm not even sure if they had wheels back then.
The good news is the Visitor's Center and park area offers great wheelchair access. The 1/3 mile trail is an easy slope and there's some cool shady spots to enjoy a packed lunch. Camp Verde is the nearby town and I'd suggest going through any drive-thru for food then coming here.
If anybody is traveling between Phoenix and Flagstaff and is looking for a 1 hour excursion, Montezuma Castle is a good one.
